Surprises Along the Way:
The Wilderness
Journeys don’t always go as planned. The Israelites had just dodged
plagues, Pharaoh’s army, and a sea that parted at their feet, but when they
got to the other side, they found … wilderness. The abundant land that God
had promised was nowhere in sight. Instead, they found themselves in a
scorched, harsh, nearly lifeless place.
Throughout the Bible, we see God’s people struggling in the wilderness. The
prophet Elijah flees into the wilderness to escape the murderous King Ahab.
The proclaimed king, David, hides in caves to escape the current king, Saul.
Jesus enters the wilderness to face three temptations.
We explored this theme in our video, The Wilderness, released in November
2025. Together, we learned how God forms people in the wilderness, invites
them to trust his voice, and provides exactly what they need to live. The
wilderness isn’t just a place to survive; it is a place where God forms us to
live with him.
