Letter From Tim and Jon, Our Founders
Dear Patrons,
One of the things we love most about our work is meeting some of you at
our studio in Portland. We almost always get asked, “Did you have all this in
mind when you started BibleProject?” The answer is, “No!” Like, not even a
little bit. We started with a simple idea: make some videos explaining the
Bible. We never could’ve imagined all the things we’ve been able to create
because of you.
So, thank you! BibleProject exists because thousands of people like you
joined us and said, “Let’s discover a creative path through Scripture
together.” We pool our resources, follow our curiosity, and make things that
wouldn’t otherwise exist. And we get to provide it all for free so that anyone
can follow along with us. It’s been a pure surprise for us to walk this path
with you.
Watching the project unfold each year has forced us to reckon with a
simple fact: We don’t know how to design the best path through life. Every
year, God has led us on the most unexpected trails and connected us with
surprising fellow travelers. It makes us think of how the Bible describes the
good life as a journey on God’s path. But, and this is key, God’s ways are
not predictable or conventional, and they are almost never convenient or
comfortable. God’s paths are not our paths. “The human heart plans its way,
but Yahweh establishes its steps” (Prov. 16:9 BibleProject Translation).
