It’s strange to think about God having a path. What does that really mean?
Are we supposed to imagine God walking on some sky-route through the
heavens? In what sense does God even need a way to get from here to
there? However odd it may seem to us, God is described in the Bible as
walking on a path as often as humans are.
There’s a beautiful example of this metaphor in Psalm 77:19. Tim’s translation
of it is:
This psalm echoes one of the most miraculous stories in the Bible, when
God parted the waters during Israel’s escape from slavery in Egypt (Exod.
14-15). With an army on their tail, the people followed the very obvious path
that God cut through the sea. In one way, the path was clear: Follow the dry
ground and avoid the walls of water on your right and on your left!
